These coated concrete masonry units (CMUs) are pre-conditioned at the manufacturing facility eliminating the need for typical chalky block fillers and providing a smooth, durable surface.
Spec-Thermal™ Pre-Insulated concrete masonry units (CMUs) are specifically designed to minimize thermal bridging. Units include a factory-installed insulated insert made of flame-retardant, expandable polystyrene which provides integral insulation placement in the finished wall. Spec-Thermal CMUs are available in precision faced unit sizes are available in 8, 10 and 12 widths with nominal 4 inch or 8 inch x 16 inch face dimensions. Other units are available with split or other textures.
WCT™ Water Control Technology is based on preserving the superior performance characteristics of concrete block while adding features that improve the ability of masonry wall assemblies to resist moisture penetration.
Sustainable Solutions by Amcon are unique mix designs utilizing pre-consumer waste material to make up 30-70% recycled content while maintaining or exceeding the requirements of ASTM C90. Sustainable Solutions are available in most Amcon block options including CMU's and SRW's.
Amcon's EnviroTrol™ curing system incorporates numerous cycles of high temperature, steam and carbon dioxide (CO2) to aggressively accelerate the hydration process. The incorporation of CO2 into the curing process assists in the carbonation of the units. Carbonation can also cause the units to shrink. Fully carbonating CMU's in a controlled setting before they are placed in a wall will minimize or eliminate shrinkage cracks. The EnviroTrol system controls the temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide until the hydration and carbonation processes are functionally complete. The results are architectural units that are dry, color consistent, resistant to carbonation shrinkage, and have a greatly reduced efflorescence potential when compared to conventionally cured CMU's.
